Description

Naval Group is one of the largest international Naval Contractors. For more than 400 years, we have been constantly pushing the limits to build the naval ships to deliver technological superiority to our Customers. It is with passion that our 17,000 employees, pool their unique know-how to design, manufacture and maintain exceptional products and systems such as submarines, aircraft carriers, combat frigates and mine counter measure ships.  In our recent and rapidly growing Belgian office (4 years old, 20 FTE) we focus at present on systems for mine counter measure, coastal protection, and cybersecurity.

 

The Belgian-Dutch remote mine countermeasure replacement program (rMCM) has been awarded in 2019 to Belgium Naval & Robotics, the consortium made up of Naval Group and Exail. This consortium was chosen by the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies to supply twelve mine countermeasures vessels and a toolbox composed of around 100 drones.

We are looking for a Data Engineer M/F to join the engineering team at Naval Group Belgium (Brussels) site. You will contribute to the development of software and data products that meet the functional needs of navies. You have the ability to ensure the features and the performance of data platforms and systems according to customer specifications.

More specifically, the main responsibilities include:

·         Leading the design and roadmap for the data platform.

·         Building efficient data pipelines for the ingestion, processing and storage of large data.

·         Collaborating closely with operational teams to understand their data needs and propose tailored solutions.

·         Implementing the data governance and data security processes.

You will also contribute to:

•         the strategy (make or buy) of development, validation, deployment and maintenance of tools.

•         technical specifications that outline the scope, objectives, and deliverables of the project.

Responsibilities & Duties

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

 

You hold a M. Sc. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Big Data, Machine Learning, or similar area. You have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as data engineer or analytics engineer.

You have the following skills and knowledge:

•         Experience in Python and SQL.

•         Understanding of the main concepts of a data stack: orchestration, object storage, query engine, ETL/ELT, warehouse, data format, modelling, data bases, etc.

•         Skills in data architecture.

•         Experience with data tools: Airflow, dbt, S3, MinIo, Trino, Hadoop ecosystem, etc.

 

•         Knowledge or experience of the agile software development method.

•         Proficiency in English is mandatory.

•         Motivated to solve problems and able to come up with creative solutions.

•         Ability to work independently and take initiative but also function well in a team with good communication skills.

 

 

The following skills will be seen as an asset:

 

•         Knowledge of Cloudera.

•         Experience with DevOps best practices (git, CI/CD, containers, etc.).

•         Interest in one of the following topics is a plus: data science, robotics, system engineering.

•         Good knowledge of Dutch/French.
